How Mines Works

Each round follows four steps. You set the difficulty level, click on tiles to build your multiplier, and decide when you want to stop playing.

  1. Choose Your Mine Count

    Pick one to 24 mines on the 25 tile grid. Having more mines means you’ll get a higher multiplier for each safe tile, but the survival probability decreases with each click.

  2. Place Your Bet

    Place your bet for the round. This amount gets multiplied by your final multiplier when you cash out.

  3. Reveal Tiles

    Just click the tiles one by one. Each safe tile you collect increases your multiplier. The odds get worse with each click because there are fewer safe tiles left in the grid.

  4. Cash Out or Keep Clicking

    After each safe tile, you can cash out to lock in your winnings or keep clicking for a higher multiplier. If you hit a mine, you lose your whole bet right away.

There is no time limit. You can take as long as you want between clicks, which makes Mines good for players who like to think carefully and plan ahead. Each unrevealed tile has an equal chance of containing a mine, so the grid position (corners, edges, center) doesn’t matter.

The Math: Probability and Multipliers

The game calculates your multiplier after each safe tile based on how many safe tiles remain versus total tiles remaining. This is adjusted by the 3% house edge.

The formula: New Multiplier = Previous Multiplier × (Total Tiles ÷ Safe Tiles Remaining) × 0.97, where 0.97 represents the 3% house edge. With three mines, your first click has 22 safe options out of 25 (88% chance), and if you survive, the second click has 21 safe out of 24 (87.5%). The multiplier gets bigger because the odds get worse with each click.

With just 20 mines, there are only five safe tiles on the whole grid, and it is extremely unlikely that you will reveal them all in a consecutive order. Mines operates at 97% RTP, which is better than most slots (94% to 96%) but slightly lower than Crash and Dice at 99%. The trade-off is strategic gameplay that other games do not offer.

Four Mines Strategies

Every mine configuration from 1 to 24 has the same 3% house edge. The only things that change are volatility and multiplier potential. Choose your strategy before the session starts and commit to it.

  • Safe Player (1 to 3 mines, reveal 3 to 5 tiles): Target 1.3x to 2.0x. Win roughly 7 out of 10 rounds with small, consistent returns. Best for clearing wagering requirements or playing with a limited bankroll.
  • Balanced (5 to 7 mines, reveal 5 to 8 tiles): Target 3.0x to 7.0x. Complete about half your rounds, with successful payouts covering multiple losses. The best balance of risk and reward.
  • Risk Taker (10 to 15 mines, reveal 5 to 10 tiles): Target 10x to 50x. Expect to lose 8 out of 10 rounds, but one successful round covers multiple losses. Requires significant bankroll to survive the variance.
  • Extreme (20 to 24 mines, reveal 1 to 3 tiles): With 20 mines, only 5 tiles on the entire grid are safe, and finding even one pays 5x or higher. Most rounds end on the first click. Set a fixed number of rounds before the session and stop when you hit it.

Provably Fair Verification

Mines has the most convincing provably fair proof of any crypto original. The server seed determines all 25 tile positions before your first click. After the round, you reconstruct the full grid from the revealed seed and compare it to what you saw during play.
